Electric vehicle charging equipment installations Electric vehicle charging equipment, also known as electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of fixed electrical equipment which is connected to a mains electricity supply and provides energy to recharge the traction batteries of electrically propelled road vehicles.

Two main charging systems have been developed: an AC charging system, and a DC charging system. Depending on the capacity of the charging equipment, the new AC charging systems allow charging from 16A to 70A (single phase) or up to 63A (three phase). The DC charging systems allow charging at even higher currents and voltages. These two charging systems are intended to complement one another, with each being more suitable for different usages.

At Aldridge energy we provide and install charging equipment for domestic, on-street, commercial and industrial systems, for 1, 2, 3 and 4 modes.

We supply and install charging point manufacturers such as Chargemaster, Elektromotive and Pod Point.

Most types of electric vehicle charging equipment are designed to supply AC electrical current to the vehicle (mode 1, 2 or 3 charging). The vehicle then converts this AC electrical input into DC via an on-board rectifier which is permanently installed in the vehicle. AC charging equipment tends to be either in the form of ‘charging posts’ or wall-mounted charging units, and comes in a variety of current ratings, e.g. 13A, 16A, or 32A. Some types of electric vehicle charging equipment are designed to supply a DC input to the vehicle (Mode 4 charging). These types of charger use internal rectifiers to convert an AC supply input into DC. This DC. electrical output is then supplied to the vehicle and used to directly charge the vehicle’s battery/batteries.
